PENNSYLVANIA GERMAN
Also known as Pennsylvania Dutch (from Deutsch), people of Pennsylvania German heritage trace their roots to German-speaking regions of central Europe. Immigrants began settling in this country in the late 17th and early 18th centuries.
In the 2000 census, 255,807 people in the U.S. claimed Pennsylvania German ancestry.
