RUSSIAN
Early Russian immigrants to America settled in Alaska and along the West Coast. Larger numbers came after 1880. When the Soviets loosened immigration restrictions in 1969, thousands left, including many Jews.
In the 2000 census, 2,652,214 people in the U.S. claimed Russian ancestry.
ePodunk mapped the top communities by percentage of population. The map and the following list show communities in which 1,000 or more people listed an ancestry group, and in which at least 10 percent of those people said they were Russian.
