The community name derives from Spanish for "crown."

Early international road races occurred here along the circular Grand Boulevard.

Tin mining was an early industry. The mine stopped producing in 1893.

Once a citrus center; with residential development overtaking the orchards, Sunkist closed its plant in 1982.
