Profile for La Verne, California, CA

After persuading the Santa Fe railroad to run through his property, developer Isaac W. Lord sent brass bands into the streets of Los Angeles and San Bernardino, offering free rides into the new town of "Lordsburg." Residents unsucessfully tried to change the community's name while Isaac Lord was still living. However, upon his death in 1917, Lordsburg became La Verne.

Crime: The number of violent crimes recorded by the FBI in 2003 was 75. The number of murders and homicides was 1. The violent crime rate was 2.3 per 1,000 people.
