Manhattan Beach received national attention for the McMartin Preschool case, in which members of the family that ran the school were accused of sexually abusing children. Charges against five of the defendants were eventually dropped; a sixth defendant was acquitted. The remaining defendant, Ray Buckey, was tried twice. Both times, jurors deadlocked
