Long Island City is a neighborhood of Queens.
The community was named for a local newspaper, the Long Island City Daily Star.

For decades, a local landmark along the East River was the giant red neon Pepsi-Cola sign. The plant stopped bottling the soft drink in the 1990s, but the sign was preserved and moved to another spot along the waterfront.
