Anadarko is on the Washita River.

The Comanche, Apache, Kowa and Wichita Indian agencies were combined here in 1878.

Oil was discovered here in 1901 and the surrounding Indian reservations were then opened to white settlement.

Crime: The number of violent crimes recorded by the FBI in 2003 was 49. The number of murders and homicides was 0. The violent crime rate was 7.4 per 1,000 people.
