The town encompasses the village of Greenport and the communities of Cutchogue, East Marion, Fishers Island, Greenport West, Laurel, Mattituck, New Suffolk, Orient, Peconic and Southold.
Puritans settled here in 1640. Once a shipping and whaling center.
