Home of the MacDowell Colony, which was founded in 1907 and continues to host writers, photographers and other artists. Those who worked at the colony include James Baldwin, Willa Cather, Aaron Copland and Leonard Bernstein

Site of the nation's first free, tax-supported library, established in 1833
