Profile for Wellesley Island, New York, NY

Wellesley Island is in the St. Lawrence River, west of Alexandria Bay. The island is accessed via the Thousand Islands Bridge.

Establishment of a Methodist campground here in 1874 attracted people from across the U.S. and Canada.

Wellesley Island received national attention for 1980 surrender of activist Abbie Hoffman, who lived here under the name of Barry Freed.
