Biloxi is between Biloxi Bay and Mississippi Sound

First seafood canning factory opened in 1881. A century later, the seafood industry suffered the impact of foreign competition.

The Biloxi economy rebounded after state legislators approved casino gambling in 1990.

The city, which suffered extensive damage during Hurricane Camille in 1969, was hit hard by Hurricane Katrina in August 2005. More than 5,000 buildings were destroyed by the storm.
