Greenwood is on the Yazoo and Tallahatchie rivers

Cotton and slaves were shipped from Greenwood to New Orleans and other cities. After the Civil War, the area became a major cotton market.

Blues great Robert Johnson died here in 1938, at age 27. Cause of death was never determined. Many people believed he had been poisoned by a jealous husband.

Crime: The number of violent crimes recorded by the FBI in 2003 was 64. The number of murders and homicides was 2. The violent crime rate was 3.6 per 1,000 people.
