Peculiar is a city in Cass County, in the Kansas City metro area.
One tradition says the community was named by a spiritualist who declared it peculiar that he had seen the site in a vision. Another theory says the name originated with a postmaster who repeatedly submitted names to the postal service, only to have them all rejected. He was told to try something "peculiar"
