Cedar Springs is on Cedar Creek.

The city's association with red flannel began during the cold winter of 1936, when a New York City newspaper columnist bemoaned that red-flannel underwear was no longer available. The Cedar Springs newspaper responded with an editorial saying, "Just because Saks Fifth Avenue does not carry red flannels it doesn't follow that no one in the country does. Cedar Springs' merchants have red flannels!" Orders came pouring in from all over the country.

Crime: The number of violent crimes recorded by the FBI in 2003 was 16. The number of murders and homicides was 1. The violent crime rate was 5 per 1,000 people.
