Carnation is a city in King County, in the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue metro area.
The community was named for the Carnation Milk Products Company.

The community's first non-native inhabitants arrived in the mid-1860s, though it would be almost forty years until more serious development occurred.
Many of the early settlers hailed from Scandinavia. Logging dominated the local economy in the 19th century.
The community incorporated in 1902.
