Enumclaw is near the White River, with view of Mount Rainier.

The community was platted in 1885. Development quickly followed.

In addition to being an agricultural center, one that centered on hops in the late 20th century, the area was also a lumber center.

The railroad came to the community in 1910. Incorporation followed three years later.

Many Danes immigrated to the community. They started many cooperatives.

Crime: The number of violent crimes recorded by the FBI in 2003 was 22. The number of murders and homicides was 0. The violent crime rate was 2 per 1,000 people.
