Hunts Point is on Yarrow Point, a peninsula on Lake Washington.

Leigh Hunt bought the land in the 1870s. He was intent on giving himself a view of Seattle, so he cut down many trees.

Leigh's sound financial status faltered some years later and he relinquished the land to a bank.

At the beginning of the 20th century, Hunts Point was a summer vacation spot.

The Lake Washington Ship Canal, opened in 1917, lowered the level of Lake Washington more than 10 feet, creating more land in Hunts Point.

The community incorporated in 1955. The impetus for the change was a resident sub-dividing land and rumors of navy ships in Cozy Cove.
