Williamsburg is between the York and James rivers.

Established as the colonial capital of Virginia in 1699. Gov. Francis Nicholson, who had designed the city of Annapolis when he served as Maryland's royal governor, then laid out this community

Declined after the capital moved to Richmond during the Revolution

Crime: The number of violent crimes recorded by the FBI in 2003 was 25. The number of murders and homicides was 0. The violent crime rate was 2.1 per 1,000 people.
