Allston is a neighborhood of Boston. Elevation is 20 feet.
Prior to the American Revolution, Little Cambridge was a small agricultural community.
At the beginning of the 19th century, the town of Cambridge proved incapable of providing the basic infrastructure for Little Cambridge's thriving cattle industry. As such, Allston and Brighton seceded from Cambridge and become the town of Brighton.
In 1874, after experiencing a good deal of growth and prodded by leaders who desired even more, the town of Brighton was annexed by Boston.
The turn of the 20th century was a period of tremendous growth in the community. Electric street cars, initiated in 1889, helped spur the growth.
Since World War II, the community has faired less well. Lower qualityhousing and, in general, undesirable development have plagued the community.
