Hastings is south of the Platte River.

Founded in 1872 at the junction of two railroads

Edwin E. Perkins manufactured a liquid product called Fruit Smack in cherry, grape, lemon, orange, root beer and raspberry flavors. To lower shipping costs and the risk of breakage, he reduced the product to a powder and renamed it Kool-Aid

Local landmarks include the Fisher/Rainbow Fountain, which is illuminated in summer months
