Profile for Saint Michaels, Maryland, MD

Saint Michaels is on a peninsula between the Miles River and Broad Creek.

The community was a shipbuilding center from the late 17th century to the early 19th century.

Learning of a planned attack during the War of 1812, townspeople placed lanterns on ship masts and treetops. British forces misjudged the location of the town and fired their cannons above it.
