Bounded by Hoyt Street, 9th Street, Degraw Street, and the Gowanus and Brooklyn-Queens expressways.
The community developed around the Hamilton Avenue Ferry, which began service in 1846.
Al Capone was married here, in 1918
Before construction of the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway, the area was considered part of Red Hook.
