Bourne is on the Cape Cod Canal. With the Bourne and Sagamore bridges and the lift railroad bridge, the town is the gateway to the cape.
Aptucxet Trading Post was established here in 1626. A replica sits on the site today.

Hundreds of "40 and 8" boxcars were made here for shipment to France during World War I.

President Grover Cleveland had a summer home here. The house, known as Gray Gables, was destroyed in a 1976 fire.
