Bardstown is on the Beech River.

Former and merged names include:
· Bard's Town
· Salem

The local bourbon industry was born when farmers looked for ways to use excess corn.

The town was overwhelmed by grief in the summer of 1969. Seven local men, all members of the same Guard unit serving in Vietnam, had been killed.

According to legend, "My Old Kentucky Home" was written about a house here, called Federal Hill.
