Profile for Crown Point, New York, NY

Crown Point is on Lake Champlain.

The French built Fort St. Frederic here in 1734. They repulsed repeated British campaigns but finally abandoned the site in 1759.

The British controlled Crown Point until after the Revolution.

Iron mines and factories flourished here in the 1800s. By World War I, most enterprises had shut down and the population had fallen dramatically.
