Jekyll Island is in the Atlantic, southeast of Brunswick

Former and merged names include:
· Jeckel Island
· Jeekel Island
· Jekil Island
· Jekyl Island

Bought in 1886 by the Jekyll Island Club, an exclusive group of millionaires. Rockefellers, Morgans and Astors vacationed here

In 1942 the U.S. government ordered the area evacuated. The state of Georgia purchased the island from the club in 1947 and turned it into a state park

Filming location for:
· 1989 movie, "Glory"
· 2000 movie, "The Legend of Bagger Vance"
