Sheepshead Bay is a neighborhood of Brooklyn
The community was named for the sheepshead, once a common fish here.
The Coney Island Jockey Club opened a racetrack here in 1880, attracting the likes of Diamond Jim Brady, Lilly Langtry and Maurice Barrymore, father of John, Lionel and Ethel. The track closed in 1910
Well-known residents have included:
· Clare Bow, actress
· Vince Lombardi, football coach
