Park Ridge is on the Des Plaines River.

Former and merged names include:
· Brickton
· Pennyville

Two early settlers started a brickyard, in 1853, providing much of the impetus for the community's initial growth.

The community was incorporated in 1873.

Subdivisions sprang up in large numbers in the 1920s.

During WWII, housing shortages plagued the area due to the increased employment at Douglas Field, currently O'Hare International Airport.

Ranked No. 1 healthiest town (among communities of 25,000-49,999 population), by Chicago magazine, October 2005

Filming location for:
· 1980 movie, "The Blues Brothers"

Well-known residents have included:
