Davenport is on the Mississippi River.

one of the Quad Cities at the Iowa-Illinois border. The others are Moline, Rock Island and Bettendorf.

The local economy boomed with the steamboat and with local limestone quarries. It was here that the first train crossed the Mississippi, in 1856.
