The community name derives from Iroquoian for "beautiful valley."

· Big Tree
The Wadsworths have been squires here since the arrival of James and William Wadsworth from Connecticut in 1790. Tradition has it that the Wadsworths were able to walk from Rochester to Geneseo without ever leaving their own property.

Home of one of the oldest hunt clubs in the country; the hunters and their horses ride down Main Street each October

The village is known for its fountain, which features a little bear hugging a lamppost.

The Genesee Valley Hunt, established here in 1876, is one of the oldest fox hunts in the country.
