Hollywood is on the Atlantic Ocean.
Developed as a planned city by Joseph Wesley Young, who began surveying the site in 1920. He ultimately lost his Hollywood holdings to a sheriff's auction a decade later.
A Seminole Indian reservation, a politically independent entity, is located inside the city boundaries.
Crime: The number of violent crimes recorded by the FBI in 2003 was 944. The number of murders and homicides was 4. The violent crime rate was 6.5 per 1,000 people.
