P.T. Barnum and Tom Thumb are buried here. Barnum served as mayor of Bridgeport

The city has lost much of its old industrial base in recent decades. The site of a factory complex that once made valves and meters is now occupied by Harbor Yard Ballpark, which opened in 1998
