The original site of Katona is a half mile north, beneath the New Croton Reservoir. Residents moved the village between 1895-1898 to make way for the reservoir.
Katonah received national attention for Martha Stewart's attempt to trademark the community's name for a line of furniture. As of late 2007, with the status of the trademark held up in court, at least two anti-trademark songs were written by community members to help in the fight against Stewart's plan.
