Profile for Trinidad, Colorado, CO

Trinidad is on the Purgatoire River, on the east side of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains.

Settled by sheep herders from New Mexico. Former coal town.

A week-long gun battle occurred here in 1914 between striking coal miners and company militias.

Crime: The number of violent crimes recorded by the FBI in 2003 was 66. The number of murders and homicides was 0. The violent crime rate was 7.1 per 1,000 people.
