During the same period, 78 people died from cancer. The county death rate from cancer was 2.8 per thousand people, compared with 2 per thousand statewide.
A reported 10 people died in motor vehicle accidents.
The average age of people living in Knox County at the time of the 2000 census was 42.3, compared with 36.5 statewide and 36.2 nationwide.
